The situation regarding performing Umrah while in debt is different from what it is in the case of performing Hajj. Even though one is in debt, one is still allowed to perform Umrah as long as causing of this blessed journey won’t lead him to delay paying back the amount that is due to him. Paying off debts is an obligatory injunction, and the All-Powerful Allah will ask a person about any unpaid debts. Planning and performing the Umrah, however, are optional.

While it is occasionally required to settle your debt before leaving for the pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah, Muslims are also allowed to perform Umrah while in debt in Islam. Your performing Umrah is permissible and it will be accepted in front of Allah Almighty by the will of His (SWT). If you have debt and a strong desire to perform Umrah and see the holy sites in Mecca and Medina.
