Muharram, also known as Muharram-ul-Haram, is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It marks the beginning of the Islamic new year. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) referred to MUHARRAM as ‘the Sacred Month of Allah’ - and is thus a truly blessed month.

Do you know that the word ‘Muharram’ literally means ‘forbidden’ - i.e. it is so sacred that certain actions become forbidden that violate the sanctity.

This blessed month is no doubt a month when huge sacrifices were made by the family of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. The grandchildren (Hassan and Hussain as) of Prophet Muhammad PBUH along with other dear family members were martyred by the enemies of Islam. This holy month also reminds us of their great sacrifices and love for Islam.
This month offers us great opportunities to seek the mercy of Allah. Muharram is one of the months that has been specially selected by Allah as the best times to draw closer to Him.
We’ve put together a list of ways to take advantage of this holy month and increase ajar!

  • Say salaam often! Salam is the greeting of the Prophet (saw) and the people of Paradise. This action can be rewarding and mean of forgiveness.
  • Smile at everyone, it's SUNNAH! This simple action will weigh heavy on the scales during Muharram.
  • Give more Sadaqah. Since Muharram is the first month of the Islamic year so it is the ideal way to begin it by doing sadaqah.
  • Improve health As we know that our body is an imanat from Allah, so eating healthy and working for a better lifestyle can earn us countless rewards.
  • Seek forgiveness. Since sins are heavier in the month of Muharram, you should say ASTAGFIRULLAH as often as possible during this month.
  • Read more Qur’an. Reading Quran is the perfect way to be close to Allah during this holy month! We pray that Allah gives us opportunities to be more close to him and give us a strong Iman. Ameen.the-islamic-quotes-forum-muharram.png
